A.— Domaine méd. Le composé en -anthropie désigne une forme de folie et celui en -anthrope la personne qui en est affectée. (Mots formés sur le modèle des emprunts au grec lycanthropie et lycanthrope) :
hypanthropie (préf. hipp(o)- et anthropie) « monomanie dans laquelle le malade se croit métamorphosé en cheval » (LITTRÉ)
zoanthrope, subst. masc. « personne qui est affectée de zoanthropie » (LITTRÉ

B.— Domaine de la paléont. hum. Le composé désigne un primate :
pithécanthrope (gr. « singe » et -anthrope) « nom donné à divers primates fossiles présentant des caractères simiens et hominiens à la fois »
sinanthrope (préf. sin(o)- et -anthrope) « grand primate fossile (Préhominiens) dont les restes ont été découverts en Chine »
Rem. À partir des composés philanthrope et philanthropie, empruntés au gr., la lang. mod. a créé les composés théophilanthrope « sectateur de la philanthropie » et théophilanthropie « doctrine religieuse d'inspiration déiste née sous le Directoire et professant l'amour de Dieu et des hommes ».
MORPHOL. — À un certain nombre de composés en -anthrope, -anthropie correspond un adj. en -anthropique :
misanthrope, misanthropie/misanthropique philanthrope, philanthropie/philanthropique théophilanthrope, théophilanthropie/théophilanthropique
Cet adj. manque pour les groupes :
